Airdferry Resource Centre – Knitting Group:

All ages and skill levels are welcome! Whilst this is not a class, there are experienced knitters and the group do help each other.

Just turn up:

Mondays 2-4pm, Airdferry Resource Centre, Dornie

£2.00 per week and £1 for a raffle.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.

All Things Coorie (Breakish):

Sarah Coorie enjoys teaching traditional crafts in local schools, museums and heritage centres.

Sarah offers a variety of in-person workshops for all abilities, in small groups, (min 2 persons, max 4 persons).

All materials and light refreshments are provided.

Learn:

  • Felting
  • Silk Painting
  • Eco Dyeing
  • Bound and Stitched Memory Vessle work
  • Weaving (2 hour workshop)

Workshops are mostly 1 day courses and are a great way to learn new skills and spend time with friends, new and old.

Hungry Gull (Staffin) & Kirsty of Shilasdair Yarns:

Knitting nights at the Hungry Gull. Basic materials to get you started are provided. However, please feel free to bring along your own project or ideas!

Cups of tea and home baked cake is included.

Island at the Edge:

Island at the Edge are based in Edinbane. Yasmin is a fully qualified tutor/teacher and currently delivers courses on:

  • Gansey Knitting
  • Knitting in the round
  • Learn to knit
  • Spinning
  • Natural dying of wool
  • Introduction to crofting (ie: crofter for a day or 3)
  • Living off grid
  • And a combination of all of the above

Mary’s Chairs:

Mary’s Chairs was established in 2015. Previously based in Oxfordshire at the Sylva Foundation Wood Centre, the business moved to the Isle of Skye in June 2023. 

The workshop continues to be a hive of creativity for lots of fabric-based crafts including upholstery, cushions, lampshades, patchwork, rug making, weaving and many more beautiful things.

Mary has taught over 150 students and has undertaken 250 chair restoration projects for clients, from tiny footstools to large chaise-lounges. 

Mary’s Chairs is located within the beautiful village of Isleornsay on the Isle of Skye, the workshop offers the following classes:

  • Upholstery
  • Sewing
  • Crafting

Portree Library – Knitting & Crochet Group:

The knitting and crochet group meet every Saturday at the library at 2PM.

Beginners are very welcome. If you need help with a project or a technique, or just want some inspiration, join this friendly session and let members of the group help you.

Rag Tag & Textile:

Ragtag offer a broad range of craft-related learning opportunities.

‘Located on the Isle of Skye in Northwest Scotland, RagTag is a social enterprise dedicated to promoting mental and social well-being through support, training, and creative up-cycling projects in our community’

Ragtag offer regular Craft Workshops. A wide range of crafts is offered, and sessions are led by a tutor. These are open to anyone, and are free of charge, though a donation is welcomed. Places must be booked in advance.

The Sewing Bee (Dornie Hall):

The Sewing Bee team offer an opportunity for you to develop your sewing (machine) skills within a supportive environment.

The team are able to teach according to class needs, so everyone is very welcome!

If you are new to sewing, you will be offered a starter kit and plenty of support and guidance. If you have sewing experience, you are encouraged to bring your own projects, and to ask for help where necessary.

There are two classes on a Thursday in Dornie Hall:

10:00am – 12:30pm

7:00pm – 9:30pm

The cost is £10.00 per session *please bring your own sewing machine*.
