Futurelearn: Future learn has an interesting system. You can choose to have limited access to 1400+ courses for free. Alternatively, you can pay a monthly or annual subscription to have unrestricted access to courses. If you choose the free option, you will get lessons on a weekly basis, rather than being able to access them whenever you wish. University of the Highlands & Islands (UHI): The UHI offers a large number of courses (degree, HN’s, postgraduate, professional & vocational), which can be studied on a full-time, part-time and on-line basis. As the only university based within the Highlands and Islands, in-person study is available at a number of learning centres within the Skye and Lochalsh area. The Open College of the Arts (OCA):
OCA is part of The Open University. They joined The Open University in August 2023.
They have an exceptional range of part-time courses including painting, drawing, creative-writing, film, photography, graphic design and many more, with an award-winning online MA Fine Art course.
There are several intake opportunities throughout the year to enrol for the (Hons) degree programmes and Foundations courses.
OCA are not tied by fixed term times, so students can study when they wish, flexing studies with work and other responsibilities.

The Open University: The Open University (Scotland) is the largest provider of part-time undergraduate higher education in Scotland. They are a world leader in providing innovative and flexible distance learning opportunities. They ranked first in Scotland for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2024.
The Open University is open to everyone, regardless of age, income, geography and background and with no requirement for entry qualifications. That means that many new undergraduates join without the qualifications you would normally need to get into university. The majority of OU students in Scotland study for free with a part-time fee grant.

University of Strathclyde: Centre for Lifelong Learning: Strathclyde University has a centre, which is dedicated to lifelong learning. Many courses are on-line, which makes them accessible for people living in the Skye and Lochalsh area. We have contacted the centre, and all courses at the University are fee paying.
