Interesting thoughts on being a lifelong learner
Here are some interesting thoughts on being a lifelong learner. Teresa Rickards produced a book called ‘How to Win as a Mature Student’. Whilst this was published some time ago (1992), much of the material remains highly relevant today, and to the concept of lifelong learning. The positive take on identity is particularly interesting.
Rickards says the following:
‘You need to accept and agree with yourself that, whatever else you are doing by learning, you are altering your self-image permanently. Once you make this move, you will never ever see yourself in the same light again. You will become, not necessarily a different person, but a much more experienced and developed person.’
She also says:
‘Anyone who matures and develops as a learner will mature and develop as a person at the same time. They will become a more interesting person, with more to offer to friendships and relationships and a wider experience of life and people to draw upon’.
We at LLH fully agree with the above and feel that this process starts the minute you decide to continue to learn.
Happy learning, everyone!
