Mindsets
In order to grow and develop as a person, it is important to have a ‘growth mindset’, rather than a ‘fixed mindset’ (Dweck, 2012, cited in Green Carmichael, 2021):
Fixed Mindset:
- A person believes that their basic qualities (intelligence, talents & abilities) are fixed. You have certain limits – and you can do nothing to change this.
Growth Mindset:
- Someone with a growth mindset believes that everything can be developed over time – with the right amount of support, guidance and effort.
- A person with a growth mindset is not worried about making a mistake, what others think or how they might look. Instead, they just give it a go (Dweck, 2012, cited in Green Carmichael, 2021).
As a lifelong learner, you are likely to have a growth mindset!
